FAW ?First Aid At Work:  




This course is suitable for candidates wishing to act as a First Aider at Work.  It is HSE approved and certificated course.

The candidate must be physically able to carry out the procedures detailed in the course outline and must attend entire course to be eligible for assessment.

Upon successful completion of this three day course, first aiders receive certification to allow them to practise for three years after which a 2 day re-qualification course becomes necessary.

As of 1st October 2009, the HSE strongly recommend that you take an annual half day refresher course after completion of this course; however this is not mandatory or accredited by the HSE.

Course Outline:

Your staff will gain the skills and confidence they need on our practically based courses. Our professional trainers bring the sessions to life with plenty of opportunity for hands on experience of key first aid techniques that supplement the theory needed to complete the course.

Course Content:

During this first aid at work training course delegates will cover the following areas:

  • Accidents and illness
  • Using a first aid kit
  • Simple record keeping
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty;
  • Heart attacks
  • Resuscitation
  • Shock
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Fractures
  • Seizures
  • Asthma
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Eye injuries
  • Low blood sugar
  • Fainting

 The course will include practical and interactive exercises.

Assessment method:

The assessment will be an ongoing process carried out by trainer.  The trainer will undertake oral questions and scenarios.  Final practical assessment completed by qualified assessors who have not been involved in the training.


Valid for 3 years or as directed by the HSE Completing a 2-day FAW Re-qualification course. The candidates attending with existing certificate must be valid for the duration of the FAW Re-qualification course.

The certificate may be renewed up to 3 months early, with the unexpired portion added to the length of the new certificate. 

Learning Outcomes;

By the end of the course the delegates will have:

  • An indepth understanding on the role of the First Aider
  • Practical skills on how to deal with a wide range of minor and more serious symptoms and illnesses
  • The ability to assess an emergency situation and respond safely and effectively

No of Delegates – The Total Number of delegates that can sit this is course is a maximum of 12 to uphold the quality of our training and to ensure the course is properly embedded to achieve the companies/individual goals.
